Robert LeHeup's entrepreneurial journey began unexpectedly. He never imagined himself running a nonprofit organization. However, his journey started with organizing art shows to raise funds for various nonprofits. Before venturing into the nonprofit sector, Robert served in the Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004, specifically with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine, 2nd Marine Division. He was part of the first group deployed to Afghanistan and was involved in capturing the Kandahar Airport and the embassy in Kabul.

After leaving the military, Robert faced the same challenges that many veterans encounter, such as substance abuse, unresolved anger, and thoughts of suicide. Although medication provided some relief, he didn't experience any significant improvement. In 2010, Robert was given the opportunity to deliver a TEDx talk, where he shared a powerful moment he experienced in Kabul. Through the process of writing and performing his talk, he gained a sense of ownership over his story and felt the profound impact of having it heard by others.
